Thoughts of Spring

The snow and ice may not be conducive to biking, but that doesn't stop us from dreaming about spring and biking the Munger Trail again. Winter is never a forever thing. The days are already getting longer. Let your imagination grow wings. Fly off into spring and yank your bikes from their hibernation. Here's an image to help you in the event you're brooding and ashen skies are crowding your day.

Happy New Year!

Stop In For An Extra Special Christmas Gift or Two

Thursday evening founder Joelene Steffens hosted a wonderful gathering of artists and friends at Carlton Bike Rental/Art Dimensions. The festive decorations and especially tasty varieties of eats, treats and libations all made for a very special time for those able to attend. Photographer Randy Samarzia and artist Doris Sampson, among others, were on hand. As Christmas closes in, there's no better place to buy local than here for those last few stocking stuffers, or for just the right wall art to finish a room or office.

In the meantime, enjoy the season.

Peak Autumn Biking Week

Have you looked at the weather we've dialed in for you? Blue skies and sunshine streaming through autumn translucence with spangles of gold, crimson and flaming yellow. Yes, when the sunshine sprays through the trees like this, you can hardly catch your breath. And there's no better way to enjoy it than on a leisurely stroll on your favorite bike trail.

The key word is spectacle. Nothing quite matches an autumn day in the Northland. If you haven't been out on your bike yet this fall, this week's forecast promises you a memorable morning, afternoon or early evening.

Don't have a bike? We rent 'em. Got a bike, we'll help you take care of it with all the little fixings and adjustments that make your ride a pleasure to treasure.

Come on down. And after you finish your ride, pick up a treat or something more in our store. Minnesota starts here.

Carlton Disc Golf Sanctuary

Last weekend one of our regulars skipped on over to the Disc Golf Sanctuary to check things out, and guess what? We weren't surprised at all, but he was. This is one very sophisticated disc golf course.

John Oberg and his son Jade, pictured here, were doing the course and both were impressed at the high standards. Well laid out, very well marked, and simply satisfying.

For what it's worth, there are two upcoming events you'll want to mark on your calendar. The first is during Carlton Daze. On Sunday morning July 31 at 10:00 a.m. there will be a competition event, with entrants divided by age group. The younger, from 0-15 (we doubt there will be many zero-year-olds) and the older group 16 and up. There's a $6.oo entry fee and fine prizes, plus a one dollar optional Ace Pot.

On August 20th there is another competition for serious disc golfers. The grand prize is a tournament bag with 8 discs and other prizes. The $25 entry fee will get you two discs and a key chain. There's a limited registration, so you may wish to inquire early here at Carlton Bike Rental.

For casual disc golfers, we have all the discs you need here, to rent or purchase. And treats to help you chill when you have finished a hot run in the sun, though much of this gorgeous course is through the trees.

You really owe it to yourself to check it out. It's summertime.

A Sunny Summer Weekend

Today was a nice one. There were a lot of bikes out on the trail this weekend, especially this afternoon. Whole families were meandering through Carlton, gliding up toward Jay Cook State Park and about the neighborhoods in between. Can't say we blame them on days as pretty as this one.

Someone asked about our hours the other day. Just so you know, we have them posted right out front by the door. We also have a cool sign letting folks know we not only rent and repair bikes, but have some very tasty ice cream treats and other goodies to help refresh you after a hard ride. (Or a leisurely one in the sun.)

And there's a lot more here for you if you stop by. Of course we just want to say hello and get to know ya. Hope your summer's feel special for you.

Till next,
your friends at Carlton Bike Rental
